CONNECTING TO THE INTERNET USING 3G, GPRS, OR EDGE

Connecting to the Internet Using 3G, GPRS, or EDGE Stay online when you’re on the go! Your phone gives you the ability to access the Internet through 3G, GPRS, or EDGE networks. It will automatically configure the data connection to use your wireless service provider’s 3G, GPRS, or EDGE service when you turn on and use your phone for the first time. By default, the data connection is always on. Turning on or off the data connection If you are not on a fixed data plan, it is recommended that you turn off the 3G, GPRS, or EDGE connection when not in use to save data cost. This also saves battery power. There are two ways to easily turn on or off the data connection: Press and hold the POWER button to open the Phone options menu. (Unlock the screen first if it is locked.) From the menu, tap Mobile network. Add the Mobile network widget to your Home screen. This widget is an on/off switch that you can tap to quickly turn the data connection on or off. Mobile network widget You can add the Mobile network widget to your Home screen by following the instructions in Personalizing Your Home Screen: Widgets. Adding a new access point An access point name, or APN in short, is the name of your service provider’s Internet network to which your phone connects. If you need to add another 3G, GPRS, or EDGE connection to your phone, obtain the access point name and settings (including username and password if required) from your wireless service provider and add these settings to your phone by following these steps: Press HOME > MENU, and then tap Settings. Tap Wireless controls > Mobile networks > Access Point Names. On the APNs screen, press MENU and then tap New APN. In the Edit access point screen, enter the APN settings.
