Speaker’s Death: Ondo Assembly Declares Seven-day Mourning

The Ondo State House of Assembly yesterday declared a seven-day
mourning in honour of the late Speaker of the assembly, Hon. Samuel
Ajayi Adesina.
Adesina died on Tuesday in an undisclosed hospital during his battle with cancer of urinary bladder.

The Chairman of the House Committee on Information, Hon Oyebo Aladetan,
who disclosed the declaration of the mourning period, added that the
assembly had set up a burial committee headed by a member representing
the Odigbo 1 Constituency, Hon. Victor Akinwe.
Akinwe incidentally, haileds from the same local government with the late speaker.

Aladetan said the committee set up by the assembly would work along
with the late legislator’s family members and also liaise with the state
government on the burial arrangement for the deceased.
The lawmaker described the death of Adesina and painful and unfortunate
saying the death came at the time when the speaker should start
enjoying what he labouMeanwhile, the Speaker of the House of
Representatives, Hon. Aminu  Tambuwal, has condoled with the government
and people of Ondo State over the death of the Speaker of the state
House of Assembly, Hon. Adesina Samuel Ajayi.
In a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Media and Public
Affairs, Malam Imam Imam, Tambuwal described the deceased as a complete
gentleman who combined family life and public service with distinction.
He said Ajayi was a proactive lawmaker who loves his country dearly.

He prayed to God to give his family, constituents and the entire people of the state the fortitude to bear the loss.
Also, the Speaker of the Kwara State House of Assembly, Hon.  Razak
Atunwa, has described the death of Adesina as a great loss to the
nation.
Atunwa in a statement by his Media Aide, Alhaji Abdul-Rahman Sanni, in
Ilorin, also described the late  Speaker as a great parliamentarian who
had contributed significantly towards the strengthening of parliamentary
democracy not only in Ondo but Nigeria at large.
He said  parliamentarians in the country would miss his valuable
contributions towards deepening representative governance in Nigeria.
The Speaker urged Nigerians to immortalise the deceased by imbibing his
virtues of kind heartedness, humane disposition, tenacity of purpose
and zeal to make democracy more meaningful to the people.


Atunwa enjoined members of the Ondo assembly, his immediate family,
government and people of the state to take solace in the fact that he
lived a life worthy of emulation and prayed God to grant him eternal
life as well as his colleagues; his immediate family, government and
people of Ondo State the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss.
